Background information
WWF was one of the first international non-government organizations working in Vietnam. In the 1990s, WWF began working on a national conservation strategy; and since then has worked closely with the Vietnamese government on a diverse range of environmental issues and implemented field activities across the country.

Based in Hanoi, the WWF Indochina Program expanded its operations into Cambodia [since 1993] and Lao PDR [since 1997]. In 2006 WWF-Thailand joined WWF Indochina to form the WWF-Greater Mekong. And in 2014, WWF-Greater Mekong opened the 5th office in Yangon, Myanmar. WWF-Vietnam is the implementing arm for projects in Vietnam.

In Viet Nam, the Mekong river basin and Vu Gia – Thu Bon river basin are priority areas for conservation interventions in the freshwater sphere for WWF Vietnam as they fall within two of Vietnam’s priority landscapes; The Mekong Delta Landscape and Central Annamite Landscape, including the project: “Community-based freshwater resources conservation and management in Vietnam” funded by HSBC Bank.

In Tram Chim National Park (TCNP), flora or plants is an important component of natural ecosystems. They make life possible through their oxygen production and carbon dioxide absorption. By providing energy, materials (biomass) and environment for all the living beings, they help not only maintain productivity of ecosystems but also bring about different services for human including biological resources (for example: food, medicinal material, ornament, breeding stock, etc.) and social benefits (recreation, tourism, research, education, culture, etc.).
TCNP is a well-known wetland internationally and nationally for its important biodiversity, and the public awareness of its diverse flora is considered critical to attract more attention by different stakeholders for its sustainable management including development and conservation. To support this, WWF is seeking a consultant to study the Flora of Tram Chim National Park and develop a pictorial book to introduce the Park’s flora.
