Mostly supportive culture and people

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
In similar roles across multiple departments, I found support and guidance from my peers, though sometimes you have to seek those peers out due to management structures that could leave you siloed. Work environment was a little stuffy and old-school, but also good-natured and friendly.

Pros

Good pay, especially with low cost of living, supportive coworkers

Cons

Sometimes had to figure out a lot on your own due to odd departmental structure

Tough work environment

The company was alway doing rolling work layoffs, hence tough work environments. No clear vision as to where management wanted to take the company. Thus, I will not recommend this company.

Mid-management heavy

There is a significant volume of mid level managers compared to workforce responsible for performing job functions. This often results in in being micromanaged.

Pros

Healthcare

Cons

Great place to work until your job is outsourced

Great training, meaningful work, dept was very geared towards electronic data instead of paper bills. Management in my dept was very hands on. We worked well a a team

They do business with Foreign Terrorist Organizations

They do business with Foreign Terrorist Organizations. There are still some shady operators out there. They don’t all have to be exploitative or predatory. These people who misrepresent themselves talk a good game, but only so far. They endorse practices that are frowned upon or questionable.

Cons

They don’t fight against terrorism, They try to manipulate.

A company that cares about a select few.

Meetings for meetings. Wasted time. You're their property. A lot of narcissists. HR works for the company, not you. NEVER WORK HERE. Most take more breaks than work. The ones that work are trying to outdo everyone because you're ranked among your peers. It is the most disgusting place there is to work in Peoria.

Engineering Intern

They will go out of their way so you can go where you want, the location is not ideal for many engineering roles, but the activities are great and the people are amazing. There is a lot of room to take charge of your future career

Great People, Ability to succeed

The managers are friendly and let you know exactly what needs to be done. They listen and are open to changing direction if that is what is best for the company. Also provide resources so you can succeed. Can be stressful when on tight deadlines or are dealing with those outside of your department.

Learning a lot of things, however very fast-paced and stressful

You will be able to learn a lot of things from other team members when you are new, however, the working environment is very fast-paced and stressful. Not a 9:00-5:00 job, pay is probably below market average

Great company, supportive culture

I've worked at Caterpillar most of my life. It's become like a family. The good and bad is that there are a bunch of people that have worked at Caterpillar a very long time.

Pros

Sense of purpose, great coworkers

Cons

it's a big company, so sometimes feels slow

Good company to work for

I generally had a really good time at Caterpillar. There were countless learning opportunities available. Over my 10 years, most of my managers were good. There is a lot of movement between jobs for most people, and moving locations is advantageous if you want to advance. As with large companies like this, you can feel lost in the massive organization.

Doesnt like ambition

Was literally told to slow down as I was making others look bad by doing my job well and too quickly. This place was very unprofessional and spiteful.

Good work-life balance

Good company to work for if you value work-life balance above all else. Career growth is limited and depends on team you are on. Not much else to do locally.

Pros

Flex schedule, Decent insurance, 401K, work-life balance

Cons

Difficult to find cutting edge work, pay is good for location but not for SW/Tech

Professional and Pleasant place to work

Enjoyed my time at Caterpillar with excellent work life balance. Loved being part of a large collaborative team and helping to meet company goals. Good communication and decent training as well. Rarely came across a particularly difficult person. Good culture.

Good company.

Caterpillar is a good place to work. If you fit into the right criteria, there are advancement opportunities. There are many people who work at Caterpillar who are intelligent, mentoring, friendly, and great team members. There are some amazing managers, but, in recent years management within certain departments are being directed only by cost, which is great for the company, but lousy for their team members. There is no room for emotion in business, but there should be room for relationships with suppliers, outside of cost only. There should be considerations/rewards to suppliers for years of service provided, constant negotiation of pricing to be competitive, and notifications when business will be directed away from a supplier.

Great benefits and working environment.

I enjoyed my time at Caterpillar. They have great benefits and the working environment was very good. The only negative aspect to my time there was my entire department was outsourced to a company in India.

Very progressive, long standing company who understands what it takes to be a leader in the industry.

Typical job specific tasks with layers of oversight and metrics. Culture is ok but as the economy shifts there’s increased worry about jobs dependent on your product line

Pros

Work/Life balance

Cons

Management shift too often
