Good people on the ground , Upper management not so

Good crews of guys to work with on the ground, unfortunately the estimators and upper management could not quote a project to save their lives.
No longer a going concern and would have hurt a lot of mum and dad investers.

Appalling people and morel lots of lies, bad communication and management. short cuts taken, poor supervisory, intentional high staff turnover, intentionally unfairly treated, unsafe work practices, lack of and poor equipment, poorly skilled, unqualified, undermining dodgy leading hands and employees especially in surface treatment. backwards way of doing things. Micro managed, unrealistic dead lines to be met due to under quoteing and heroic behaviours there for putting workers under high amounts of stress and pressure only to have the job take a lot longer than expected due to short cuts been taken and not following the correct specifications and procedures. Incidents and ne’er misses been unreported and swept under the carpet

Very exciting place to work the variety was emense, from offshore work, workshop work repairing mining equipment including iron ore cars, buckets, replacing wear plates in shouts ongoing maintanance all different kinds of workshop fabrication from new to replacement parts.

Great team with immeasurable knowledge

RCR Energy is a great division of RCR Tomlinson to work for. There are many staff here with 20+ years experience which I think speaks for itself with regards to the company.

They hare fantastic teachers, who take the time to teach you and ensure your knowledge.

Work life balance almost non existent. Demands place on staff by executive leadership team lead to a tight knit and cohesive lower tier brought about by cohesion through adversity.

Worked on casual basis for nine years doing power station shuts. They take safety very seriously which is the thing I like most with them. Good pay with a reasonable amount of o/t. Made plenty of friends over the years and often catch up with them at various places. Hope to continue for a few more years working with RCR.

Some really good times, unfortunately some not so great times too

I worked at Cape Lambert, then at Silvergrass, having been both Mechanical Fitter & Leading hand. Cape Lambert was really great, management were firm but fair. At Silvergrass it seemed to be the flip side of a coin.
Workshop culture was very different to what I was used to, some supervisors made it difficult for staff by hording tools etc to only be used by their teams.
The hardest part of the job for me was seeing the waste of both equipment and talent. (Towards the end of the job, most of the good supervisors were let go??? and the useless ones stayed)
I did however meet some great people up there and we catch up every now and then.

Supervisor meetings every morning before commencement for the day.( All trades and management involved).To cover any interaction between trades needed,job safety,progress and updates neccesary.
Prestart meeting covering previous days achievements,safety and environmental requirements for the days movements and tasks.
Continued,coverage of everyday changes.
Constant feedback from leading hands and personnel on the job.
Procurement for materials,tools and machinery.
Constant adjustment to workforce numbers.
Help all new personnel with onboarding and familliarisation of the project.
Help local People and businesses.
Keep a strict regime and keep a focus on team moral.
Cover time sheets and record daily activities.
Weekly and monthly progress meetings. (corporate)Covering all aspects dealing with monthly deadlines and costs.

Management are very focused and help set the standards.

Overall, much was learnt, great outcome and looking forward to my next mission.

Safety culture was a generic briefing every morning, Company placed costs as a priority over our safety
Middle tier management were terrific, upper management insulted the workers regularly, workplace culture was deflating and suppressed by the lack of management skills and lack of resources and materials.

The hardest part of the job was being insulted and demeaned by the Manager who blamed the workers for missing deadlines and trying to carry out our duties with no materials or tools.

The best part of the job was the genuine tradesmen and women the I had the pleasure to work with, the hardships of this project bonded the crew and the supervisors, despite the company shortfall

Good company gained more experience in FIFO roles on Construction. Pay was good as we were on a 4:1 roster, 10 -12Hr day shifts with the option of night shift if you requested it.

I Found management to be easy to approach and knew what they were doing. Have no complaints

The job retention is very unnerving but a workplace is made of the people working beside you, the personel are very helpful, although a lot of the managerial staff are self involved and refuse to see logic and a bigger picture.

A typical day at RCR is excellent, can go from calm to chaos but the managers and workers with get through it as if it was a easy day. i have learnt so much and can still learn more because there is plenty to learn. The people at RCR are really nice and would recommend this mining industry to anyone for sure.
