I enjoyed my work with the University of Illinois and I learned a lot about different operations within the institution. I think that having that background will help me in the future.

Graduate Research Assistant (Former Employee) –  Urbana, IL13 September 2019
You get no benefits as a student. You are required to work hard and it's a lot of work. Pay is terrible, minimum wage. Positions are all part time so no benefits are needed. It is also hard to get a job, very competitive.

Getting approval for spending and basic maintenance for facilities was near impossible. Facility I worked at had decades outdated equipment as well as inadequate chemical storage lockers.

President (Former Employee) –  Champaign, IL4 September 2019
Absolutely loved working here. The benefits outperform the pay, but makes this a place you don't want to pass up. Loved the culture and helping students!

Student Kitchen Help (Former Employee) –  Champaign, IL4 September 2019
Eh. It was a job. They got rid of the bump in pay after working there for a school year per year so I never made little more than minimum wage. If you work dining, you should look for another job.

Office Specialist II (Current Employee) –  Champaign, IL30 August 2019
If you're someone who is great at existing in a hierarchy, you will do well in higher education. The people here are lovely but fairness is not always the order of the day. You will work hard, be compensated decently, and have excellent benefits.

Business Administrative Associate/Business Manager (Former Employee) –  Chicago, IL14 July 2019
Nepotism is rampant & misappropriation of funds. Upper management lacks motivation, do not understand work processes, highly political, receive high payment, but does no work. Upper management commingled funds & there is misuse of funds. Blames subordinates and then terminate them.
Pros
You get to go home
Cons
Bullying by Upper Management & Senior Executives

Working with the men's gymnastics team at the University of Illinois was a phenomenal experience, I had the opportunity to work autonomously and learn the profession while assisting with a championship winning team and program.

Fine option for grad school.
Teacher Trainer, NCSA Summer Computer Camp (Former Employee) –  College of Education20 June 2019
Perhaps too big for undergrads, but grad school provided the oportunity to get to know professors. Course work allowed the development of projects rather than study of concepts and theory.
